Brothers, my wishes for a formidable and transforming New Year!
The transition from 2020-2021 will prove one of the most important landmarks in the history of the United States. And by extension, worldwide. So much is at stake. The political, social, and religious spheres are all deeply challenged and corrupted. The rot is so deep many have been vexed. Several are confused as to what to do, and what to expect in the future.
What is happening in government is unprecedented with corruption on many levels: federal, state, county, municipal. In the social arena: schools and other institutions are greatly degenerating, and they are defending depravity, violence, and destruction of human life. In the Church: her leaders are, well, let’s say, disappointing. They too have abandoned—and even betrayed—their own flocks. As God says in Ezekiel “the shepherds have fed themselves, and have not fed my sheep” (Ez 34:8)
Where is the leadership? Where are the heroes? Who will stand up?!
In 2020 I took special notice and honor of King David, commemorated on December 29 (the feast day marked by the Church), the fierce and godly Shepherd-King. What a figure! Everything a man should be. And everything who we must become! The aforementioned realms of concern are all like a Goliath, a giant who needs to be faced. The colossus philistine is ultimately a brute-thug not because of his combative posture and hostile attitude, but because he defies the God of Israel (1Sam 17:45).:
On the field, with sling in hand, David confronts Goliath and declares:
“You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin; but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down, and cut off your head…. that all the earth may know there is a God in Israel… for the battle is the Lord’s and he will give you into our hand” (1Sam 17:45-47).
Brothers we must remember that the behemoth of corruption we now face is ultimately a defiance of God. It is a rejection of His Majesty, His Justice, His Goodness, His Good Name. And like David, we must make our motive one of defending the Honor of the Lord of Hosts. If we fight for His Glory, for his Great Name, and for all of His Purposes, then we can fight with his power, with His Spirit, in His Promises.
Ultimately, it is all about the God and Creator of the Universe.
So, let us not move forward simply out of only a sense of duty and determination of will. Or in anger about the present situation. But let us move forward in supernatural virtue of Faith, Hope, and Charity. Let us go forward in that Faith which moves mountains (Mt 17:20), assenting to all that God has revealed. In that Hope which gives assurance that interests of God and His Good Will shall prevail. And in Charity, which loves God above all things, and loves all things in God. A love which seeks finally his Honor and His purposes.
Brothers, remember, you are sons of God Father and sons of Mary, the Mother of God.
It’s Your Move.
